On Sunday, June 10 and that next Monday morning, the WECMRD Field House and Battle Mountain High School will be hosting the first night’s stay for the popular bike tour event, Ride the Rockies. Over 2,100 bikers and 600 of their families, friends and supporters will be staying overnight on the WECMRD and Battle Mountain campus, Inn at Riverwalk, and several others will be staying in lodging throughout Minturn, Avon and Beaver Creek.
There will be presentations and guest speakers starting at 4:00 p.m. at Freedom park with live music starting at 6:00 p.m. There will also be food vendors and a beer garden. This is a community event and all are welcome.
The bikers will be coming from Breckenridge and will ride to Leadville then down Highway 24 to Minturn. They will continue to ride onto Highway 6 until entering Miller Ranch Rd at the stop light just before Riverwalk. Bikers should be arriving between 12 noon and 5:30 pm. The next morning between 6–9 a.m., they will re-enter Highway 6 via Miller Ranch Rd and head to Wolcott, up Highway 131, and finish their long, second day’s in Steamboat Springs.
It is going to be a busy weekend for our valley as we host the GoPro Games and a soccer event in Avon. It is also important to note that State Troopers, local law enforcement, paramedics and the fire department are here to help keep the riders, pedestrians and drivers on the road safe. Signage will be up as well as support staff and volunteers from Ride the Rockies.
